Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton targeted by “potentially explosive devices”

“Suspicious packages” for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were intercepted because they contained “potentially explosive devices,” confirmed Wednesday the US Secret Service.

The package for former President Obama was sent to his Washington residence. He was “intercepted” late Tuesday night.

The one for his former secretary of state and presidential defeat candidate in 2016 was destined for his New York residence in Chappaqua. He was “recovered” Wednesday morning.

None of the packages went to either of these two figures of the Democratic Party, says the Secret Service. They were intercepted by people who filtered their mail.

Both packages were intercepted before being delivered to their intended destination. The persons placed under our protection neither received the parcels nor risked receiving them.

According to an Associated Press source, the explosive device for Mrs. Clinton was “functional”.

The news agency and the New York Times also cite sources that the device was similar to another discovered on Monday at the residence of billionaire and philanthropist George Soros in New York. It was in this case a homemade bomb made of a pipe of fifteen centimeters filled with explosive powder.

According to NBC News, the return address on parcels for Mrs. Clinton and MM. Obama and Soros were Democratic Representative Deborah Wasserman Schultz, formerly chair of the Democratic National Committee, the governing body of the Democratic Party.

Mrs. Clinton was not at home when the parcel was intercepted; She is due to attend a political event in Florida on Wednesday for the mid-term elections, which will take place on November 6th. Former President Bill Clinton was there, however, according to a person familiar with his schedule.

CNN’s New York office evacuated

The Time Warner Center, located in Columbus Circle, New York, was evacuated shortly before 10 am due to another suspicious package. The building houses offices of the CNN network.

The parcel was discovered in the mailroom, but it is not yet known if it is connected to those intended for Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton. A bomb squad of the New York police moved the package late in the morning.

According to CNN, which quotes three sources, the package was aimed at former Obama CIA director John Brennan, a virulent critic of US President Donald Trump who became one of his commentators.

Television viewers tuning in to CNN watched a live show interrupted by Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto, when the buzzer sounded.

The network’s Washington office took over, and joined the two anchors, who now describe the events from a nearby sidewalk.

No one has claimed the shipment of these suspicious packages.

“Vile” acts, according to the White House
The White House quickly sentenced suspicious packages to Obama and Clinton.

“These terrifying acts are despicable, and whoever is responsible will have to answer for their actions in court,” commented her spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabeee Sanders.

The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and taking all appropriate measures to protect anyone who is threatened by these cowards.

The Secret Service is the agency of the US Department of Homeland Security responsible for protecting the President and other US officials. It also provides security for former presidents and former presidential candidates.

Mr. Obama, Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Soros and the CNN network are all American right beasts. They are often attacked by President Donald Trump.

More details to come.
